Do we hate plastic?

Do we hate plastic?

It’s not as if we hate plastic, however when there are safer alternatives,

we believe we must be using them.

We know that when we extract the raw material for fossil-based plastics it causes problems.
Through refining, manufacturing, use, recycling and end of life there are many issues related to fossil-based plastic that end up damaging the environment and our health.
The counter argument often used when calling for a reduction in plastic products is that without plastic, we would have nothing.
No phones, no clothes, kitchen items, bathroom items etc etc.

Plastic is everywhere, as we are completely reliant on it.

That’s the point as to why we need to reduce plastic within our lives.

We have become so reliant on plastic, we need to at least make sure to use it in the right way and make the most out of it for long periods of time.
Plastic that can be used for longer periods has value.
Take our car for instance, which is a fourteen-year-old Hyundai.
It is full of plastic, however in having a car for this long, we have ensured that we have used it at the highest value.

Using fossil-based plastics for cosmetics packaging is not something we should be doing

when there are alternatives.

Our tubes and tubs made from bamboo and PHA,
have been third party tested for compostability, have been tested for toxicity and are undergoing lab testing for compostable certification.
Some may argue that end of life disposal is difficult and that composting facilities are not easily available.
This is true; however we know that at least more are being built and that eventually this type of innovation will be more widely accepted.
We also know that if newave tubes and tubs go to landfill they will not leak chemicals into the environment (or chemicals into your product during use).
We know that years ago one of the main arguments against electronic cars was that they often need charging during trips and that publicly
assessable charging was not easily available.
However, this did not stop people buying electronic cars, as they knew they were better for the environment.
People knew this was an innovative solution and so the more cars came on to the market and Governments invested in readily available charging facilities.
The need for an environmental solution drove choice and people chose to buy the cars.
The innovation continued, the travel distances improved without charging and prices are dropping for electronic cars as more become available.
Cost is an issue for new technology.
Right now, huge cosmetic companies can buy plastic tubes and tubs for a few cents each.
Innovation such as newave tubs and tubes cost us much more to buy and use for our formulations.
One of the reasons why huge cosmetic companies don’t change to packaging products such as those newave use is that it means less profit for them.
Less profit for them means less return for their shareholders, who invest money and expect the highest possible return regardless.

We don’t have shareholders or investors to answer to.

The money invested in starting newave is only that of the Co-Founders Tiffany and Hugh.
We started newave as we believed in the opportunity to Save the Planet.
We believed we could do better, and that people want choice.
A choice to move away from fossil-based plastic and still have a wonderful cosmetic product.
Petroleum is a finite resource, it will not last forever.
We need to change long before it runs out.
We could quote more research (and goodness knows there is an awful lot of it) how chemicals within plastic are bad for you, bad for the environment, bad for developing children and bad for children not yet born (yes, research has found nano-plastics there also).
We don’t hate plastic; however, we know it is not good for us and not good for the planet.

We have a conscious choice, to do better, to be better and to demand better.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world”.

Love yourself, love your planet.
