What are newave tubes and tubs made of?

What are newave tubes and tubs made of?

The main components are recycled bamboo and PHA.

No petroleum and so no fossil-based plastic.

We all know about bamboo, but how about our PHA ingredient?
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are a family of biobased,
degradable natural plastic replacements
that can functionally replace many of the plastics used today.
PHA are made from fermentation of microorganisms.
Depending on the microorganism and the cultivation conditions
different products can be made.

For newave, PHA is combined with bamboo as the main ingredients

for the tubes and tubs (for our coming soon Hand Cream and Body Lotion).

Currently our bamboo stocks are from collected as recycled sources
(typically from construction) and bamboo also is naturally
a highly renewable biomass that grows and replenishes incredibly quickly.
As a biomass ingredient, it does not put pressure on
local food sources or growing areas.

newave tubes and tubs are certified by the USDA

(US Government) as 95% biomass.

The 5% that is not biomass, are safe from being fossil-based plastic
that can leach chemicals into your cosmetic products.

Now we know the human health concerns, more research is being done on the impact of plastic packaging in regard to cosmetics.

As an example, in 2023 scientific research out of France studied the “Chemical Safety of Cosmetic Plastic Packaging” and found in conclusion:
This study affirms that exposure to leachates from cosmetic polymers has the potential to impact the endocrine system by modifying the functioning of steroid hormones and disrupting nuclear receptor signaling.
Cosmetic Contact Materials (CCM) made from plastics were found to be
non-inert, particularly when they came into contact with viscous oily
paraffin and glycerin formulations.
Our study stresses the possibility that if one potential human exposure route to 2,4-DTBP is through the consumption of packaged foods, cosmetics could represent another pathway through skin contact.
In using our biopolymer tubes (and tubs for our soon to be released
Body Lotion and Hand Cream) we are looking to break industry
reliance upon fossil-based plastics and change the way cosmetics
are made available worldwide.
After Tiffany bought home in a party bag a fossil-based lip-balm within a plastic tube, I knew we needed to change.
Together we created newave, a new cosmetic offer with no fossil-based product ingredients and no fossil-based plastic packaging.
Innovation is progressing and our tube / tub suppliers continue to work on improved biopolymers with better barrier for newave products.

Save the Planet is not just some marketing speak

to draw attention, it is a call for immediate change.

We need to act now to ensure we protect the environment, protect ourselves,
our children and future generations to come.

We need to break the reliance on petroleum-based products.

Love yourself, love your planet.
